While originally created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the University of Waterloo in 1982, this educational and beautiful university landmark located in the heart of campus has grown steadily over the years to contain over 70 large specimens of rocks and minerals.

Beginning in July 2013, the campus community was polled twice weekly about what they liked best about the University of Waterloo. A series of questions were posed, and those who wished to participate could send in their answers by tweeting them with the #uWaterlooBEST hashtag, and the Peter Russell Rock Garden received the most votes for the best outdoor space on campus!
